Artist’s Statement

By using paint on canvas and starting deliberate accidents, I establish specific physical conditions under which I can gradually unify matter, motion and gravity into a thin and lucid physical bodya naturally-made interwoven entitythat resembles the organic structures of existence from miniscule to macro scales.

In the solitude of my studio, my artistic act enables me to participate in the magnificent process of genesis. This gives me a unique opportunity to initiate, observe and accompany the natural manifestation of existenceliveon the surface of my canvas. I do this because it expands my perception and touches my soul. The viewer only sees the end result as a “painting” hanging on the wall. But what he/she sees is indeed the residue of a magical dance I had been involved with, without leaving a trace.

My work is a fusion of art, science, and consciousness, rooted in my personal experiences and observations. I apply paint to canvas, yet I do not “paint.” I am not a painter. I am more like a composer and choreographer who dances with a moving body of water that is attuned to the gravitational vibrations, travelling over the canvas, carrying particles of paint. The realms of waves and particles intrigue me immensely; that is why I mostly treat the water and pigment as those realms. The paint is also a catalyst that makes the dance visible.

Since 1993 till now, I have focused on this evolving notion, creating successive and interrelated bodies of work, titled Constellations, Creations, The Grey Paintings, Organic Expanses, and Biological Sites.
